Police Arrest 48 Suspected Criminals in Kajjansi Operation

A total of 48 suspected criminals have been arrested by police in an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal black spots within Kajjansi Police Division, under the Kampala Metropolitan Police South.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the arrests followed a 3:00 am operation on July 1, 2025, based on actionable intelligence about habitual criminals who gather, gamble, and loiter in crime-prone areas of Lweza.

The suspects were apprehended from three locations: 18 in Muchanga, 20 in Kajjansi, and 10 at Sanyu Brothel—one of the identified hotspots.

Preliminary investigations reveal that in areas like Muchanga, groups of youth pose as bottle and dustbin collectors during the day but reportedly engage in criminal activities during the night, including home invasions and robbery.

During the operation, police recovered housebreaking tools, including two pliers, three screwdrivers (testas), and three knives. These items were secured as evidence, and statements from both complainants and arresting officers were recorded.

All 48 suspects are currently being held at Bwebajja and Lubowa Police Stations as investigations continue, ahead of their appearance in court.

ASP Owoyesigyire noted that most of the suspects are between 17 and 23 years of age.

“The Police remain committed to protecting communities by disrupting criminal networks and ensuring that those involved are brought to justice. We urge members of the public to continue providing timely information to aid our operations,” he said.
