Police Arrest 12 Suspects During Museveni’s 7th Swearing-In Ceremony

The Uganda Police Force, working together with sister security agencies, successfully implemented comprehensive security and traffic management measures during the presidential swearing-in ceremony held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

At least 12 suspects were arrested for various offences during the event, which marked the seventh swearing-in of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.

According to CP Kituuma Rusoke, the security situation around Kololo remained calm, with only a few criminal elements identified and apprehended. Among those arrested were three suspects linked to mobile phone thefts.

One suspect was arrested for general theft, while seven others were taken into custody in connection with four cases of common nuisance. Additionally, one individual was arrested for attempted theft, and another was found in possession of a knife.

Police also reported that two children went missing after being separated from the adults accompanying them. The children were later traced.

Meanwhile, 37 people received medical attention due to exhaustion or pre-existing medical conditions. Of these, 16 were referred to Naguru China Hospital, while 21 were transferred to Mulago Hospital for further management.

CP Kituuma thanked members of the public for their cooperation with police and other security agencies during the national event, noting that the collaboration contributed to the overall peaceful conduct of the ceremony.
