Nigerian Sensation Simi Spotlights Joshua Baraka Uganda’s Rising Stars in Exclusive Press Interview

Nigerian songstress Simi, renowned for her soulful tunes, recently shared her insights on Ugandan artists poised for success in the Nigerian music market. Among her notable mentions were Cindy, Eddy Kenzo, and Joshua Baraka.
Simi, born Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, emphasized that while not many Ugandan artists are widely known in Nigeria, a select few have the potential to make a significant impact.
The singer, who was in Uganda for the first time to headline the “Best of Kampala” concert, expressed admiration for Joshua Baraka. “I have heard about Joshua Baraka…I just got to learn about him recently,” she remarked, highlighting his potential to broaden his audience in Nigeria.
Simi, known for her hit songs and distinctive voice, acknowledged the promising talents of Cindy Sanyu and Eddy Kenzo, the latter with whom she had interacted before. Regarding other artists like Fik Famaica, she admitted, “Who?… I have not heard about that one. Not yet anyway, but maybe…who knows?”
Despite her admission of not being well-acquainted with artists outside Nigeria, Simi shared her discovery process, mentioning that she often finds new talents through radio broadcasts and recommendations from friends.
In an exclusive press interview held ahead of her headline performance at the “Best of Kampala” concert, Simi expressed her enthusiasm for the potential cross-cultural collaborations between African countries, stating, “It would be nice if we had more African countries that seep into the Nigerian market the way our music seeps into other countries.”
Simi’s appearance in Uganda marked a significant moment as fans eagerly awaited her performance at the Garden City Upper Terrace on Sunday night.
