Manhunt Launched for Blogger Paddy Kitayimbwa Over Red Beret Allegations

Uganda Police have launched a nationwide search for journalist and blogger Paddy Kitayimbwa, also known as Ray Supasta, following his failure to comply with bail conditions imposed after his arrest in September 2023. Kitayimbwa was detained for possessing the National Unity Platform’s red beret, an item deemed illegal by law enforcement as it is recognized as the party’s official regalia.

Despite being granted bail on the condition of monthly reporting to the authorities, Kitayimbwa allegedly violated these terms by failing to present himself in April, prompting the initiation of a countrywide manhunt.

The NUP red beret has become a symbol of resistance against the government, often leading to arrests and legal repercussions for its wearers. Authorities have banned its possession, reserving it exclusively for law enforcement use.

The Uganda Police are urging individuals with information on Kitayimbwa’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in his apprehension. Failure to comply with bail conditions carries severe consequences under Ugandan law, potentially leading to additional legal actions against Kitayimbwa upon his arrest.
