Police Arrest Eight in Kampala Operation Against Roadside Criminals
Police at Jinja Road Division conducted disruptive operations on 28/05/2026 between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. following public outcry over incidents of phone snatching, theft of side mirrors, and other vehicle parts along Jinja Road traffic lights in Kampala.
According to SP Kawala Racheal, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Public Relations Officer, the operations were carried out in the areas of Wampewo, Punjan, the former Electoral Commission offices, and around the Jinja Road traffic lights in Central Division, Kampala.
Eight suspects were arrested, and preliminary findings indicate that some had been masquerading as hawkers and vendors while engaging in criminal activities along the road.
The arrested suspects have since been charged accordingly and are awaiting appearance before court.
Kawala said the operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
