Isingiro District Police Probe Murder of 80-Year-Old Woman
The Police in Isingiro District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of Kirarinyenda Joy, an 80-year-old resident of Kasaana I Cell, Birere Subcounty. She was found dead in her house, with the doors locked from the outside, on 02/04/2024 around 10:00 a.m.
Samson Kasasira, the Public Relations Officer for the Rwizi Police Region, told our reporter that preliminary findings suggest that the deceased was last seen on 30/03/2024 with her male friend, Bamwine Richard, aged 42, near her home.
However, Bamwine was missing when the body was discovered, claiming he had left her well on 30/03/2024 to go for Easter holidays.
Kasasira noted that the deceased’s body had scratch marks on the neck and other parts, indicating strangulation. The body was taken to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
The motive for the crime remains unknown, but two suspects have been detained for questioning: Nuwabeine Ephranse, a daughter of the deceased, and Bamwine Richard, the male friend.
