UPDF 3rd Division and Acholi inn Community of Rupa Sub-county in Moroto District have been given a period of two weeks to allow negotiations and harmonization over land and then report back what they have agreed upon.
The ultimatum was sounded by Gen. Salim Saleh during a land conflict resolution meeting at the state lodge in Morulinga.
During a meeting attended by LT. Gen. Charles Angina and moderated by Hon. Pulukol David Bwangamo, the Acholi inn Community complained that the UPDF has extended their boundary contrary to the land given to them some years back.
The community also complained about harassment from officers whenever they want to cause Development in the land located in the North and southwest of the third Division Headquarters.
Through their lawyer counsel Nyeko Moses the residents also claim that the UPDF land where the third Division Headquarters are situated, stops inside the former fenced area and not outside and their extension outside the fence is tantamount to land grabbing.
The Community also told Gen Saleh that the UPDF used the land committee of North Division, Moroto Municipality to sign land Documents and not the land committee of Rupa Sub-county which they said is a breach of procedure.
However, the Deputy 3rd Division commander in his submission denied the Community claims noting that, UPDF is a people army strategically located in the current land to protect the people from ruthless Turkanas and they cannot grab any land from the community.
