Father wanted for strangling 1-year-old son to death

Police in Kisoro have arrested a 27-year-old man identified as Joseph Duhimbaze for allegedly strangling his one year and seven-month-old child to death.

The child has been identified as Ostin Irunva.

Duhimbaze’s wife Irakunda Specioza a resident of Taaba village Mbuga parish Nyakinama sub-county in Kisoro district reported the matter to the police.

It is alleged that on Wednesday 15/2/2023 at around 2130hrs, the suspect came home and went directly to the bedroom where the child was lying.

Irakunda says that shortly after the husband’s entry, she heard the child crying which prompted her to rush to the bedroom but found the suspect strangling the child and tried to intervene but the man was stronger.

The child’s mother then called the neighbours who responded immediately. Unfortunately, they found when he was already dead.

ASP Maate Elly the PRO Kigezi says the Police were notified and visited the scene.

The child’s body was taken to Kisoro hospital for postmortem. It is unclear what could have caused the father to strangle his own child to death.
