Two Dead as Landslide Strikes Village in Kabale District

Two people died following landslides that struck the village of Rwamacumu in Kasheregyenyi Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county, Kabale District, on October 29, 2024, at around 3:00 a.m.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, identified the deceased as 18-year-old Tayebwa Charles, a casual worker and resident of the area, and Bosco, a 17-year-old worker of Rwandan nationality.

Reports indicate that on October 29, 2024, at around 3:00 a.m., a landslide of rocks and soil engulfed the home of Agrey Rukundo, severely damaging it and burying the two individuals as they slept, resulting in their instant deaths.

The local chairperson, Abraham Nuwagaba, alerted the OC Kamuganguzi, who then notified the DPC and the District CID officer. They led a team to the scene, conducted documentation, and retrieved the bodies from the rubble.

After a postmortem examination, the bodies were handed over to the families for burial arrangements.
