Security Guard Kills Boda Boda Rider Over Parking Dispute
The police in Kira are hunting for Bashaba Davis, a security guard who shot and killed a Boda Boda rider in the early hours of Monday, 15th July 2024.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson KMP, told reporters at Naguru Police headquarters on Monday afternoon that the suspect, who is attached to a night guard security company, developed a rift with a boda boda rider and shot him.
The deceased has been identified as Kisambira Godfrey, a 23-year-old resident of Kirinya village, Kira Municipality in Wakiso district. It is alleged that Kisambira brought his motorcycle, Reg No UGB282U, for parking at 4:00 am at Stabex Bweyogerere station as usual.
However, the suspect reminded him that they were demanding money from him (the deceased) for two weeks’ parking. Kisambira responded that he did not have money but promised to pay the next day. Unfortunately, the suspect did not listen to his pleas and demanded that he pay UGX15,000, prompting the deceased to insult him.
This angered the guard, who was drunk, and he shot Kisambira in the thigh. Bashaba was on guard with his colleague, identified as Ofuru David, who tried to intervene but in vain.
Ofuru rushed and informed the police 999 officers who had parked at a nearby Shell fuel station. According to Owoyesigyire, the officers attempted to rush the victim to the hospital, but he died along the way.
It is reported that both the victim and the suspect were drunk at the time of the incident. Owoyesigyire cautioned members of the public to avoid engaging in confrontations with armed personnel.
In another incident, on the 13th at about 1:00 pm, in Kakungulu zone, Kawempe Division, inside the Electoral Commission offices, two men jumped over the fence with the aim of robbing the offices or stealing a gun.
However, their efforts were thwarted by members of the public who saw them jumping over the fence and raised an alarm, alerting the security guard, who is a police officer, Sgt Semboga Moses. He confronted the thugs, who in turn hit him in the head with a blunt object. As he was going down, he started shooting randomly, killing one of the attackers.
The deceased has been identified as Mugerwa Ali, who died as he was being rushed to the hospital. Efforts are underway to arrest the other suspect.
