Police Arrest Trio for Alleged Domestic Murder in Rukungiri

The Police in Kigezi Region and Rukungiri CPS have in custody a mother and her two children for the alleged brutal murder of her husband, Byamukama Vincent, a 53-year-old resident of Mushuga village, Nyakisenyi sub-county, over family misunderstandings. The suspects were chased away by the victim, leading the wife to conspire with the children to murder their father.

According to SCP Enanga Fred, Police Spokesperson, reports indicate that on 4th June 2024, the deceased, who was an alcoholic, returned home drunk and chased his wife, Mutesigensi Everino, aged 44, his 19-year-old daughter, Nishaba Hildah, and his 6-year-old grandson, Ainamani Wilbroad, from his home.

The trio sought refuge in the neighborhood and started sneaking into the home to cook food whenever the husband/father was out drinking in the trading centre. Unfortunately, on 8th June 2024, they sneaked into the home to cook as usual but found the deceased at home. He chased and threatened to cut them with a panga.

It is alleged that this time, the disgruntled family waited for him to fall asleep until around 11 pm. They entered the house and picked the panga by the bedside, which they used to hack him around the neck, killing him instantly. The suspects carried the deceased’s body on his mattress and burnt it near the main house. They then dumped the remains in the toilet and demolished it.

However, trouble for them started when the deceased’s relatives put pressure on the family to reveal the whereabouts of their brother after realizing his absence. The suspects then lied that he fell and died in their pit latrine. The relatives mobilized and excavated the toilet, retrieving the human skull and other body remains of the victim. A walking stick and burnt mattress pieces were also recovered from the scene.

Enanga says that the three suspects, Mutesigensi Everino (the widow), Akanyijuka Moses, a 21-year-old son, and Ninshaba Hildar, a 19-year-old daughter, are scheduled to appear in court.

“We strongly condemn such brutal acts of violence within domestic settings. No excuse can justify the savagery committed by the suspects. Murders in domestic settings are avoidable if the warning signs of violence are detected early. Our dedicated Child and Family Protection Officers are always available and will attend to all victims,” he said.
