Rukungiri- 60 year old man wanted for murder of his wife
Police in Rukungiri are investigating the circumstances under which a 46-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by her 60-year-old husband, leading to her death.
The deceased, identified as Maria Busingye, was a resident of Nyakasa village in Nyarushanje Sub County. The suspect is Richard Rukuunya, also known as Sanyu, from the same area.
According to Elly Maate, the PRO of the Kigezi Police Region, it is alleged that on 17/03/2024 at around 2030hrs, the couple had a disagreement that escalated into a physical fight. This incident attracted their neighbor, Kyarimpa Diana, who intervened to try to stop the fight.Later, the deceased sought refuge at Kyarimpa’s home and spent the night without receiving any medical attention. It wasn’t until 19/03/2024 that her relatives, after being informed of the situation, took her to Rubabo Medical Centre Clinic, where she later passed away.
The police were informed about the incident by Michael Musime, the chairman of LC3 Nyarushanje, and a case was registered at Rubabo Police Station.
Police officers visited the crime scene, conducted examinations, and documented their findings. The suspect was apprehended and is currently being held in custody at Rukungiri CPS, while the body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
