Horror; 16 year old student hangs herself in Mityana

Police detectives in Mityana are investigating a tragic incident of suicide by hanging of a 16-year-old girl which took place today, October 2, 2023, at 4:00 pm in Ndagi village, Kiboga parish, Bulera sub-county, within the Mityana district.

The victim has been identified as Nambalirwa Jovia Nabatanzi, a senior three student at St. Johns SS Bulera and resident of Ndagi village, Kiboga parish, Bulera sub-county, within the Mityana district.

Nambalirwa’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from a mango tree in the backyard of her family’s home. She was dressed in a black jacket and black dress at the time of the discovery.

Rachel Kawala, the PRO for the Wamala Region, noted in a statement that, “We were alerted to this tragic incident.”

Upon receiving the report, detectives rushed to the scene. They discovered a white, empty 20-liter jerrican under the tree, which is believed to have been used by the deceased to elevate herself, allowing her to secure the rope to the tree before taking her own life.

According to Kawala, there were no signs of recent physical injuries or evidence of violence observed on the victim’s body. Relevant statements have been taken, and a rope found at the scene has been secured as evidence. The deceased’s body was transported to the Mityana hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Kawala urged parents and guardians to assume a more active role in their children’s lives and to remain vigilant for any changes in their behavior.
