Unidentified UPDF truck kills mother, 2-year-old child in hit and run

The police in Luweero are hunting for the driver of an army green UPDF truck who knocked a motorcycle, killing two people and leaving two others injured. The accident happened at Ngogolo along the Gulu-Kampala highway at 7:20 pm on Monday, August 21, 2023.

The deceased are Nakakya Harriet, aged 40, and her 2-year-old child, Marvin Lukwago. The motorcycle rider, Musi David, a 60-year-old, and Namugerwa Daniela, a 7-year-old passenger, were severely injured.

The victims were travelling on one motorcycle, a red Bajaj Boxer Reg No. UEK 734Q.

Sgt. Baluku Robert, Badge No. 37573 who reported the incident to the police, said that the UPDF truck, travelling at a high speed, collided with the Bajaj Boxer from the rear, resulting in deaths.

ASP TwiineAmazima Sam, the PRO Savannah, says that police officers visited the scene and evacuated the victims to Kasana Hospital for medical treatment.

The bodies of the deceased persons were also conveyed to the mortuary at the same hospital for postmortem.

No arrests have been made, but investigations are ongoing to identify the errant driver.
