Uganda’s Alison Mary Akello Shines at Miss Tourism Africa, Wins 2nd Runner-Up Spot

Alison Mary Akello has emerged as the 2nd Runner-Up in the Miss Tourism Africa pageant, standing out among the top five contestants from 20 African countries. The grand finale took place on Monday, October 1, 2024, at the Landmark Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.

Akello, who recently crowned Betty Acam Okello as the new Miss Tourism Teso in August, was chosen to represent Uganda in this prestigious competition.

As of September 30, 2024, Uganda led the Miss Popularity contest with 465 votes, followed by Namibia with 382 votes, Mauritius with 368, Chad with 321, Mozambique with 100, Kenya with 53, Nigeria with 42, Côte d’Ivoire with 30, and Ghana with one vote.

Akello dominated the Miss Popularity online voting, solidifying her position as a frontrunner as the world awaited the crowning of Miss Tourism Africa.

With tensions rising and preparations intensifying in Nigeria, Akello appealed to her fellow Ugandans, saying, “This is the only opportunity we have, and I want us to pray to God for this crown to come home. I appreciate the support I’ve received, and I encourage everyone to keep voting.”

Busingye has also urged Ugandans to unite and vote for Akello online before the Ugandan deadline.

The grand finale was attended by Benard Nabaasa, Uganda’s representative for Mr. Tourism Africa. The winner of Miss Tourism Africa will receive $2,000 (about sh7.3m) along with a trip to the Maldives and Milan Fashion Week.
