Two Suspected Cattle Thieves Lynched by Mob in Budaka District

Police in Budaka District are investigating the mob murder of two men that occurred in Nakabale Village, Kaderuna Sub-county, on October 11, 2024.

It is alleged that the duo was suspected by the mob of being cattle thieves. The deceased have been identified as Musika Yusufu, 28, a resident of Kaderuna 1 Village, and Mudugundi Rajabu, 30, a resident of Nakabale Village, both in Kaderuna Sub-county, Budaka District.

According to SP Semewo Samuel, the acting PRO for the Bukedi North Region, preliminary investigations revealed that around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, the two men were caught by locals transporting a suspected stolen cow on a motorcycle, registration UGB 598Y, a red Bajaj Boxer.

Upon being intercepted, one of the suspects attempted to flee but was overpowered by the locals. Both men were lynched on the spot.

Later that morning, the LCIII chairman for Kaderuna Sub-county, Pale David, reported the incident to Kaderuna Police Station under case reference VID CRB 25/2024.

It was established that the cow belonged to Kagona Kamu, a resident of Kilolyo in Kachomo Sub-county. He discovered his cow missing in the morning, only to later hear about the suspected cattle thieves being killed. When he visited the scene, he confirmed that the cow was indeed his.

The motorcycle used by the suspects belonged to one of the deceased and was burned to ashes by the angry mob.

Police visited the crime scene and found two bodies with multiple cuts lying in a pool of blood, with the cow tied to them.

The bodies were retrieved and conveyed to Mbale City mortuary for postmortem examination.
