Two Suspected Cattle Thieves Killed in Police Operation at Nagalama
Two suspected cattle thieves were killed following an early morning encounter with Uganda Police officers in Nagalama on Tuesday. The suspects were intercepted at Nakasajja Trading Centre while transporting three heads of cattle in a white Toyota Prado TX, registration number UAZ 797G. The cattle were successfully recovered.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident occurred on May 14, 2025, at around 3:00 a.m. Officers from Nagalama Police Station, who were conducting routine patrols at Kalagi Trading Centre along Gayaza Road, became suspicious of a Prado TX and signaled the driver to stop. However, the driver sped off, prompting a police chase.
The vehicle was eventually intercepted at Nakasajja Trading Centre. During the pursuit, two suspects fled the scene on foot, while two others sustained injuries and were pronounced dead en route to the hospital.
Efforts are ongoing to identify the origin of the recovered cattle and to trace the suspects who escaped. The bodies of the deceased, who remain unidentified, are currently at the City Mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
“We commend the officers of Nagalama Police Station for their vigilance and swift response. There has been a noticeable increase in cattle theft across the country, and we believe the intercepted vehicle was being used to transport stolen cattle to market,” said ASP Owoyesigyire.
