Police Recover Stolen Motorcycles in Kasangati, Arrest Four Suspects
Kasangati Police Station detectives, in an intelligence-led operation, successfully recovered suspected stolen motorcycles and arrested four suspects on Tuesday, February 18, 2024, at 12:30 PM in Wampeewo Cell, Wampeewo Ward, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.
The operation targeted a garage owned by Walusimbi Asuman, a mechanic and habitual offender known for dealing in stolen motorcycles. Intelligence reports indicated that he buys stolen motorcycles, alters their registration details, and resells them to unsuspecting buyers.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, officers recovered a motorcycle with registration number UFR 309G (TVS), which had been reported stolen at Kanyanya Police Station by Ms. Namutebi Eva. Preliminary investigations suggest that its number plate had been tampered with.
Additionally, five other motorcycles, suspected to be stolen, were recovered from the garage:
- UEO 178G – Bajaj Boxer, red
- UEB 674D – Bajaj Boxer, red
- UDU 453M – Bajaj Boxer, red
- UEB 348K – Bajaj Boxer, red
- A numberless Bajaj Boxer, red
The following individuals were arrested in connection with the illegal operation:
- Walusimbi Asuman – Garage owner
- Mulalizi Ismail – Asuman’s brother
- Kayiru Yekosofat – Allegedly brought the stolen TVS motorcycle to the garage
- Sekamanda Junior
The suspects are currently detained at Kasangati Police Station and face charges of possession of suspected stolen property. Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided in due course.
ASP Owoyesigyire urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to stolen property to the nearest police station.
