Police officer on the run after shooting dead suspect in revenge attack

The Police in North West Nile Region and Adjuman CPS, have launched a manhunt for a one of their own identified as ASP Acaye Moses, a police officer attached to Alebtong district as the OC station.

ASP Acaye is wanted for a revenge attack and murder by shooting of Omona Simon, a 24 year old, resident of Lulayi village, on 20/2/2024 at around 11am.

According to SCP Enanga Fred Police Spokesperson, the suspect left his station with a pistol reported his presence at Appa Police Station, on the aforementioned date, to follow-up investigations into the murder of his brother, Opio Emmanuel, by a mob which occurred on 10/2/2024.

He was among a team that responded to Apaa trading centre, after one of the suspects was sighted.

However, upon reaching the scene, he drew his pistol and shot at the victim, who was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he later died. Enaga says that a serious manhunt for the suspect is ongoing after he handed over the pistol for safe custody, at Lacor Hospital Police Post on 24/2/2022 and disappeared.

“The alleged perpetrator is a police officer, who swore to serve and protect people from harm. It is therefore, unfortunate that he abandoned his sworn oath to uphold the sanctity of life, when he fatally wounded the victim. His actions constitute a gross abuse of police authority, for use of excessive force, which resulted into a senseless murder of Omona Simon. We encourage him to hand over and defend himself,” said Enanga.

On behalf of Uganda Police Force, Enanga regretted the harm caused by our officer and conveyed their sympathy to the victim’s family, friends and relatives. He further promised that they will not rest until the suspect is arrested and charged to court for murder and theft of a police motorcycle.
