NUP Local Government leaders warned against attending Museveni meeting in Kyankwanzi
Local government leaders belonging to the National Unity Platform-NUP have been warned against attending a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni.
President Yoweri Museveni is set to meet several local government leaders, including LCV Chairpersons, City and Municipal Mayors, Division Mayors, LCIII Chairpersons, and selected speakers who are currently undergoing a one-week transformational leadership course at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.
Speaking at a media briefing at the NUP Headquarters in Kamwokya on Thursday, Emmanuel Sserunjogi, the Chairman of the NUP Local government caucus said that Kyankwanzi has been turned into a fishing ground for the National Resistance Movement-NRM where they indoctrinate all opposition leaders.
Sserunjogi says that when they were told about the meeting, they informed the leaders to boycott the retreat.
Sserunjoji further said that they are carrying out an investigation to identify any party members who could have defied the party stand and attended the retreat. He adds that they received information that Mukono Municipality Mayor Erisa Mukasa Nkoyooyo was at the retreat.
Rubaga North MP Abubakar Kawalya said they have already resolved to boycott all of President Museveni’s retreats because the President is only interested in compromising the opposition leaders than solving the country’s problems.
Last month, opposition Members of Parliament boycotted President Museveni’s address at Kololo Independence Grounds.
The MPs led by Medard Lubega Sseggona, the Busiro East County said they resolved to boycott the interaction with the President citing rampant cases of corruption; arbitrary arrests, detention, and enforced disappearance of the regime’s political opponents.
