Man Drowns While Fleeing After Alleged Pig Theft in Kabale

The police in Kabale district are investigating a suspected drowning incident involving 23-year-old Fred Kasirikare, a resident of Kabura village, Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district.

The incident occurred on February 9, 2025, at around 2:00 PM in Kabura village, Kyanamira sub-county, Kabale district.

It is alleged that on the same day and time, the deceased, along with his colleague identified only as Seguya, stole a pig valued at 250,000 UGX from an unidentified resident.

This led residents to pursue them. In an attempt to escape, the deceased jumped into a water-filled ditch and drowned.

Upon receiving the report, his relatives alerted the police, who promptly responded to the scene.

Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi region, stated that a case of drowning was registered. The Kabale homicide team, led by D/SP Mukama Hakim, documented the scene, recorded witness statements, and transported the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
