Luzira Serial Rapist Arrested, police urge victims to speak up
The police at Jinja Road have in custody one Mutumba Dennis, a gym & dog shop operator in Luzira, on allegations of rape.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire the KMP Deputy police spokesperson, Mutumba has been using his gym and dog shop businesses to lure women and rape them.
Owoyesigyire says they recorded the first incident in 2019 when one victim reported that she had been raped by the suspect when she had gone to buy dog shampoo at his shop.
“She would later on come to a police station where she recorded a statement and we started inquiries. The gentleman was arrested & they took too long to sanction his file, so we had to release him on bond, until he was re-arrested early this month and produced in Courts of law and remanded to Kitalya” Owoyesigyire explains.
However, while awaiting to be transported by police to Kitalya, the suspect was being held at Jinja Road police station when another lady, a student at MUBs informed police that Mutumba had also raped her.
According to the victim, Mutumba found her at her hostel in MUBs and wanted to meet for dinner. She objected the offer, but Mutumba insisted, until she agreed to meet with him.
However, on the way to the dinner, the suspect gave her juice laced with a sedative which rendered her unconscious until she woke up and found out that she had been raped at the same dog shop where he had raped the first victim.
Owoyesigyire says police took the suspect back to the scene of crime for reconstruction with the victim and they have opened investigations into the second victim’s report.
He noted that the suspect had made it a vice and they are looking for enough evidence to put him away for a long time. Owoyesigyire urged any other women who could have been raped by Mutumba, to come out and speak.
