Local Governments ordered to handover all Hospitals under construction to UPDF Engineering brigade
Local governments across the country have been asked to organise for the handover of all hospital construction works to the UPDF Engineering Brigade represented by National Enterprise Corporation, NEC to prepare for the commencement of construction works.
In a letter dated 1st July 2021, President Yoweri Museveni directed the Hon. Minister of Health and the Hon, Minister of Education and Sports that, all health facilities and schools be constructed by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade.
National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) is an independent self-accounting arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran’s Affairs that handles engineering works in unison with the UPDF.
In a letter dated 29th September 2021 addressed to Chief Administrative Officer/Town Clerks, all District Local Governments, Municipal and Town Councils, Dr. Diana Atwine the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health introduced Uganda Peoples Defence Forces’ (UPDF) Engineering Brigade represented by National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), explaining that they will be constructing all health facilities effective FY 2021/22.
She, therefore, asked them to hand over all construction sites but noted that they will still be responsible for the direct works supervision and contract management.
