Christians urged to remain steadfast in faith during Holy week
Christians have been called upon to remain steadfast in their faith and reject the devil’s ways during the Holy week. The call was made by Rev Fr Vincent Birungi, the parish priest for Kakoma parish, during the Palm Sunday mass celebration at Kitante Primary School for members of the Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Association (AMDA).
In his Homily, Fr Birungi emphasized that no king is greater than Jesus Christ. He urged Christians to accept Jesus as their sole king, listen to Him, and let Him rule their lives. Fr Birungi noted that kingship is a great thing but compared it to the leadership of politicians who enjoy front seats at events and receive big salaries. He added that Jesus chose to be humble and ride on a donkey, unlike worldly kings who ride in expensive cars.
Fr Birungi also reminded the congregation that Jesus suffered and was rejected by people who had been waiting for Him.
“Christ suffered. He was arrested brutally and tortured. But back then, there were no drones, otherwise, he would have been stuffed into a drone and beaten up. But he is a symbol of suffering and sacrifice. He was rejected by people who had been waiting for Him. They refused to accept him,” said Fr Birungi.
During the same mass, the Minister for ICT, Dr Chris Baryomunsi, called on Christians to fight against homosexuality and refuse to give in to pressure from foreigners. He emphasized that homosexuality is deviant behaviour that is learned and not natural. He urged Ugandans not to be forced to take on cultures that are not theirs.
“Our message has been that if the people in the western world cherish homosexuality, let it be for their society. For us, we do not cherish it. Do not force us to take on cultures which are not ours. Homosexuals are increasing in numbers through promotion and recruitment. Homosexuality is not natural, it is a deviant behaviour which is learnt and can also be unlearnt. They should not lie to you, that anyone is born gay,” said Baryomunsi.
The minister also noted that the NRM government has partnered with the church to build schools, hospitals, and other institutions. He encouraged Christians to find time to visit villages and speak to the people about programs like PDM so that they can all benefit from them.
The mass was attended by many VIPs, including Members of Parliament, and was animated by Kakoma parish. The Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa, the Woman MP for Isingiro district, Clare Mugumya, and other MPs from Western Uganda were among those in attendance.
