Soroti East by-election; FDC candidate allegedly poisoned
The Forum for Democratic Change, FDC Party candidate in the Soroti East parliamentary by-election Attan Moses Okia says he has been poisoned.
The incident comes just a day before the election slated for tomorrow Thursday.
According to Attan, he was forced to leave the rally midway on Tuesday after he was allegedly poisoned. It is unclear who may have carried out the alleged crime.
“I was poisoned yesterday. You may have realised I left the rally before it ended. I was given the local anti-poison and my night was tough – vomiting and diarrhoea,” says Attan.
He adds that by 3:30 am, he was too weak and had to be moved to a clinic where the issue was managed and after one and a half hours, they moved him out of Soroti to a private facility for further management to deny his enemies access.
“I give glory to God, that I am alive and getting stronger. Thank you so much, most especially those on the ground doing everything possible to protect our victory that shall be declared tomorrow after 4 pm. Our enemies have gotten desperate and restless, however, they have no choice but to accept the will of the people and God,” Attan added.
He is set to return to the constituency today after further checkups, examinations and treatment.
Attan is one of the three candidates vying for the Soroti East parliamentary seat which fell vacant when the Court of Appeal nullified his victory over the boundary demarcation that wrongfully annexed Aloet and Opiyai wards into the Soroti West constituency.
The other two candidates are Herbert Edmund Ariko of NRM and Pascal Amuriat of Uganda People’s Congress.
