Police Commanders urged to provide security for foot pilgrims

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Okoth Ochola has directed all territorial commanders to offer support to pilgrims who are walking from different parts of the country ahead of the Uganda Martyrs day slated for 3^rd June at Namugongo.

Fred Enanga the police spokesperson says the commanders must ensure that the pilgrims have secure resting places and that those with medical conditions too are taken care of.

Enanga urged pilgrims to carry warm clothing, light luggage and enough money for their transport back. He cautioned them to also be careful in traffic and take care of their personal properties like money and phones. The first group of foot pilgrims arrived at Uganda Martyrs Catholic Shrine Namugongo this afternoon.

This is the first time since 2019 that Christians have been allowed to converge at Namugongo. Tens of thousands of pilgrims come to Namugongo each year from different parts of the world to remember the death of the Ugandan Martyrs. At the Catholic Shrine, the events have been organized by Fort Portal Diocese.
