Army Elects 10 Parliamentary Representatives, three are women

The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces UPDF on Friday elected their representatives in Parliament, with Chief of Defence Forces Gen. David Muhoozi receiving the highest number of votes.

The newly elected members include three females; Col. Dr. Victoris Nekesa, Lt. Col. Charity Bainababo and Maj. Dr. Jennifer Alanyo.

The seven male respresentatives are; CDF Gen. David Muhoozi, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Lt. Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu, Lt. Gen. James Mugira, Maj Gen. Henry Matsiko and Maj. Gen. Sam Kavuma.

The Army spokesperson Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso congratulated the team on behalf of the UPDF. Earlier, the Commander in Chief President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa who attended the election period said he insisted on his seven priorities, including; equipping the armed forces to be second to none in the region of Africa, noting that he will not compromise on that.

The other priorities the president mentioned are; to continue budgeting for the roads and the railway, electricity, health, salaries for scientists and wealth funds.

The army is allowed 10 representatives in Parliament, and three of these have been awarded to the female soldiers.

Meanwhile many people are still pushing for the representation to be divided half way with Uganda Police Force. Some social media users today suggested that the military should take only 5 seats and leave the other 5 to their counterparts in police.
