17-year-old buried alive during sand mining in Busia

Police in Busia are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 17-year-old boy who was buried alive during a sand mining activity.

The deceased has been identified as Were Isaiah Martin, a 17-year-old resident of Buwanda cell in Masafu town council. He was the son of Wabwire David, a resident of the same address.

It is reported that on the morning of 09/01/2024, Were Isaiah Martin went to mine sand in Kikyehe village.

Unfortunately, during the sand mining activity, the topsoil of the pit collapsed, burying him underneath. Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the scene, and with the assistance of local residents, extracted Were’s lifeless body.

IP Mugwe J Moses, the PRO of the Bukeddi South Police Region, has confirmed that a case of sudden death has been registered at Masafu police station, pending further investigation. The deceased’s body has been transported to Masafu main hospital for a postmortem examination.
