UPDATE; Education Ministry postpones controversial meeting with MPs

The Ministry of Education and Sports has postponed the meeting between Minister Janet Museveni and Members of Parliament.

The meeting which was slated to take place tomorrow Wednesday 24th November 2021, has been deferred to a later date that was not mentioned.

“The meeting between Ministry of Education & Sports and Members of Parliament that was scheduled for Wednesday 24th November 2021 has been postponed. Note; A new date shall be communicated” a statement from the ministry reads.

The development comes after several MPs especially from the opposition parties opposed this, arguing that it was against the Rules of Procedure to hold parliament business at Kololo, yet the Minister is supposed to give her statements in the house.

The meeting was supposed to cover the issue of reopening of schools which is scheduled for January 2022. Earlier this afternoon, Speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanya tried to convince MPs to go for COVID tests in order to be able to attend the meeting, in vain.

MPs want the minister to come to the house, or give her speech virtually.
