Two perish in Jinja Thursday morning Church fire
Police has confirmed the death of two people in a Thursday morning fire that gutted Holy healing ministries international church, in Mpumudde ward in Jinja City South division.
The deceased are two males whose identities are yet to be revealed, and they were part of the people who had converged in the church for overnight prayers on Wednesday.
The fire whose origin is unknown sprouted from the rooftop, weakening it and forcing it to collapse on some of the congregants who were praying near the pulpit. At least seven other worshippers escaped but the two males were trapped in the fire.
The fire razed the makeshift wooden church. The police fire and rescue team tried to put out the fire in vain.
According to James Mubi the Kira Region Police spokesperson, the deceased’s bodies have been taken to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Mubi promised that police will avail a comprehensive report pertaining to the incident after thoroughly examining the fire scene.
Meanwhile, one of the congregants who spoke on condition of anonymity, says that the church caught fire at 7:00 am when the biggest part of the congregation had departed.
The deceased had stayed back to pray only to be trapped in the fire.
