Two Dead, Eight Injured in Namutumba Road Crash
The police are investigating a road crash that occurred on the night of March 25, 2025, at Mazuba, Maganda Sub County, along the Iganga-Mbale Highway in Namutumba District, in which two people lost their lives and eight others were injured.
SP Kananura Michael, the PRO of the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety, said the crash involved three vehicles: a Tata Lorry (UBQ 901S), a Toyota Hiace (UBJ 358P), and an unidentified vehicle.
According to Kananura, preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Hiace was speeding and attempted to overtake the Tata Lorry. To avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle, the Hiace driver swerved to the side of the Tata Lorry, causing the lorry’s front driver’s corner to shear off the Hiace’s roof. The Hiace then rolled multiple times, resulting in two fatalities and eight injuries.
The injured victims were rushed to Iganga Hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital’s mortuary. The driver of the Toyota Hiace is currently at large, and investigations are ongoing.
Kananura urged all motorists to exercise extreme caution when overtaking and to adhere to speed limits to prevent such accidents.
