Tragic Accident in Buyende District Claims Five Lives

The Police in Buyende District are investigating the cause of a tragic road accident that claimed five lives over the weekend. The crash, involving a Toyota Harrier with registration number UBD 160F, occurred on the evening of Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Buyumba along the Kamuli–Irundu Road.

According to ASP Micheal Kasadha, the Regional Police Spokesperson for Busoga North, the deceased have been identified as: Sebuliba Masudi (32), Mua Ayubu (29), Ben Ndikola (24), all residents of Kaliro Town Council; Wamuseke Wilberforce (31), a resident of Gumpi; and Evelyn Kyalisima (25), a resident of Lyantonde District.

Preliminary investigations reveal that at around 8:00 pm, the group was driving from Lyingo Landing Site towards Irundu. It is alleged that all the occupants had consumed alcohol.

Upon reaching a bumpy section of the road with waterlogged trenches on both sides, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and plunged into the water, killing all five occupants instantly.

A team of traffic police officers responded to the scene, recovered the bodies, and transferred them for postmortem examinations. The vehicle has since been towed to Kagulu Police Station, pending inspection.

“We strongly advise members of the public not to drive under the influence of alcohol. This dangerous practice puts drivers, passengers, and other road users at serious risk,” ASP Kasadha cautioned.
