Tragedy; Two pilgrims from Masaka Diocese knocked dead by bus

A bus belonging to Perfect Company has killed two people who were on a pilgrimage to Namugongo ahead of the 3rd June Martyrs Day celebrations.

The incident happened near St. Lawrence Nakati along the Kampala-Masaka highway in the early hours of June 1, 2023.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy PRO KMP identified the victims as Nabakooza Oliva and Nambi Specioza, both residents of Makondo Parish in Masaka Diocese. They were walking on their way to join tens of thousands of faithful gathering in Namugongo to commemorate Martyrs Day.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred at about 3:00 AM when a UAL 881Z Isuzu bus, belonging to Perfect Company, lost control while descending a slope from the Nsangi direction. The bus veered from its lane, colliding with Oliva and Specioza, walking along the road.

Officers from Kyengera Police Station, Nsangi Police Station, and the Traffic Team from Kyengera rushed to the scene. The victims’ bodies were transported to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

The UAL 881Z Isuzu bus remains at the accident scene while investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
