Three Kabale University Students Arrested Over Torture of 19-Year-Old Woman
The Territorial Police in Kabale District are holding three suspects accused of torturing and indecently assaulting a 19-year-old woman, identified as Princess Kyampeire, in a case that has sparked public outrage after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The suspects have been identified as Turyatunga Frugence, 28, Muhozi Denis, 24, and Tindyebwa Daudi, all students of Kabale University.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred on September 19, 2025, following allegations that Kyampeire had, a day earlier, stolen an Itel phone and money from the residence of Anita Kwarisima, a student of UCC Kabale and resident of Kirijime Cell, Mwanjari Ward, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The trio was arrested on September 20, 2025, and is currently in detention as investigations continue. Police confirmed that once inquiries are completed, the suspects will be arraigned in court to face charges of torture and indecent assault.
ASP Maate condemned the incident and cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands.
“Members of the public should desist from acts of lawlessness and instead utilise the services of local leaders or relevant offices to handle their concerns. Otherwise, they risk facing the long arm of the law,” Maate warned.
