Three Dead, Several Injured as Hailstorm Hits Kalangala Police Station

Three people, including a police officer and two civilians, have died following a devastating hailstorm that struck Kalangala Police Station at Bugala Island in Kalangala District today, March 15, 2025, at around 7:21 a.m.

According to SP Kasirye Twaha, the Police PRO for the Greater Masaka Region, the storm originated from the eastern side of Kalangala and caused significant damage to the police barracks, destroying almost all officers’ accommodations and tearing off part of the station’s administrative roof.

Sadly, three lives were lost in the tragedy. The deceased have been identified as D/Sgt Mujasi Micheal and two yet-to-be-identified civilians. Meanwhile, several other officers and community members sustained serious injuries.

The injured have been rushed to Kalangala HC IV for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased have been retrieved and taken to the Kalangala Hospital mortuary.

Kasirye told reporters that rescue efforts are currently underway.
