Teenage Girl Set on Fire Over Suspected Theft in Nakaseke

The Police in Nakaseke district have arrested a woman for the attempted murder of her niece that occurred on Thursday, 13th March 2025, at around 6:00 PM in Kyondo LC1, Kapeeka sub-county, Nakaseke district.

According to ASP Twiineamazima Sam, the PRO Savannah Region, the victim has been identified as Akello Bridget, a 16-year-old girl and resident of the area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Shs 400,000 was stolen from the house of Nalukwago Selina, who suspected her niece, Akello, of the theft. In a fit of anger, Nalukwago allegedly bought paraffin, poured it on the victim, who was fully dressed, and set her on fire in a locked room.

Neighbors noticed smoke coming from Nalukwago’s house and forced her to open the door. They found the victim badly burned and rushed her to a nearby clinic before she was referred to Nakaseke Hospital for further treatment. It is further alleged that Nalukwago did not take the victim to the hospital after the incident.

Currently, the victim has been referred to Kiruddu Hospital for specialized care.

Upon receiving the report, police officers responded, examined, and documented the scene. A case of attempted murder has been registered, and the suspect has been arrested to assist with investigations.
