Police warns Kyagulanyi against processions as he delivers petition to UN Rights offices in Kololo today

Ugandans have been urged to avoid joining an unlawful procession that is expected to be led by former presidential candidate Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert as he heads to United Nations Human Rights offices at Prince Charles Drive, Kololo, Kampala to deliver a petition.

While addressing the media on Monday at the National Unity Platform offices in Kampala, Kyagulanyi announced that he will be heading to the UN Human Rights office alongside Ugandans whose people are missing and being tortured by security forces.

“I am calling upon all Ugandans whose people have been abducted to join us tomorrow at 10 am as we petition the United Nations Human Rights office over human rights violations” Kyagulanyi said.

However, SP Patrick Onyango PRO Kampala Metropolitan Police area says that while the UN has accepted to receive his petition, the agency has allowed him to go with only three (03) people.

Onyango says that police has received information that Kyagulanyi is mobilising his supporters to escort him in a procession to Kololo. Processions are banned due to COVID19.

He further noted that permissions to hold Processions are only given by the Inspector General of Police as per the Public Order Management Act which has not been granted.

“We want to urge the public not to participate in any illegal activities, anybody who involves him/herself in any illegal activities will be arrested and prosecuted in the courts of law” Onyango noted.
