Police Probe Suspected Poisoning Death in Budaka Bar

Police in Budaka District are investigating a suspected case of murder by poisoning that occurred on July 5, 2025, at around 4:00 p.m.

The deceased has been identified as Baluka Florence, a 49-year-old resident of Bumbirwe Village in Kamonkoli Sub-county, Budaka District.

According to preliminary reports, Baluka left her home on the fateful day to sell roasted soya beans at a local bar owned by a woman only identified as Stella, who resides in the same area. While at the bar, she was joined by friends and they began drinking local brew (waragi), served by Stella, until around 9:00 p.m., which was her usual time to return home.

However, according to ASP Kyempasa Wilfred, the Police PRO for Bukedi North Region, Baluka was unable to support herself and was instead assisted home by one Namulalaka.

Upon arrival at her home, Baluka reportedly began vomiting and eventually passed away.

Scenes of Crime Officers, along with homicide detectives, responded to the scene. They examined and documented the area, recorded statements from witnesses, and later transported the body to Mbale Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Samples of the alcohol consumed, as well as empty alcohol bottles collected from the bar, were taken for forensic analysis.

ASP Kyempasa confirmed that three people have been arrested to aid in ongoing investigations.
