Police hunt for man who allegedly murdered girlfriend in Kiryandongo

Police in Kiryandongo district is investigating circumstances under which a lady identified as Akankunda Evas was stabbed to death by her boyfriend.

The incident was reported on 4th/ 04/22 at about 2000hrs information by Ayebazibwe Ezra a businessman and landlord at the houses where the deceased was renting.

Ezra alleges that a strange smell was coming from Akankunda’s room.

However, on reaching the room, she was found stabbed on the left cheek and ribs, covered with a towel and bed sheets on the bed in a pool of dry blood. Her body was already decomposing.

Akankunda was a 4th-year medical student at Kampala international University Ishaka campus doing her internship at Kiryandongo main hospital.

It is reported that on 31/ 03/ 22, the deceased had a group discussion with her colleagues and at around 2030hrs she was escorted back to her hostel by a friend identified as Kamodo Bensent also a 4th-year medical student.

However, along the way, the deceased told him that she was so stressed but didn’t say exactly what was stressing her. At the hostel, Keneth Kanyesigye another medical student who was doing an internship at Lira referral hospital but also her boyfriend, opened the door for them as he had visited Akankunda.

Shortly, the friend left wishing them a good night. However, Evas did not show up for class the following day.

The landlord also claims to have seen Keneth leaving the room and thought he would get back but he was never sighted again.

Julius Hakiza the PRO Albertine region says the deceased’s phones are missing and are suspected to be taken by the suspect, while the door was found locked and the keys missing.

Police teams led by the area Dpc, SOCCO and homicide visited the scene and picked up the body which was conveyed to Kiryandongo hospital for postmortem.

Officers also arrested Hakiranye Samuel a friend to the suspect to help with investigations.
