Mob Kills Man Suspected of Stealing Cows in Budaka District

The police in Budaka District have launched investigations into a case of mob murder registered, which occurred at Naigumya Village, Budaka Town Council, on October 15, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m.

According to the police, the case was reported by Itakali Wilber, a 57-year-old and Chairperson of LC I of Naigumya Village. The deceased has been identified as Sisye Paul, a 35-year-old resident of the same village.

Preliminary reports indicate that on October 13, 2025, five cows were stolen from the village by unknown persons. Feeling guilty, Sisye reportedly went to the home of Mbulambago, the owner of the stolen cattle, who had been telling residents about the theft.

The LC I chairperson had organised a meeting to establish the facts after the deceased mentioned that his cousin had told him some people were suspecting him of the theft. However, the meeting did not take place. The chairperson then decided to report the matter to the police.

ASP Kyempasa Wilfred, the PRO, Bukedi North Region, says that while on his way to make the report, he met a large group of boda boda riders heading toward the village. Shortly afterwards, police and the chairperson rushed to the scene, only to find that a mob had already attacked and killed Sisye.

A team of officers from Budaka Central Police Station (CPS), together with the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCCO), visited and documented the scene. The body was retrieved and conveyed to Budaka Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.

Statements were recorded from witnesses, and exhibits used in the killing were recovered.

Police have condemned the act of mob justice, noting that it undermines lawful investigations and the rule of law.
