Mityana Police Investigate Murder of 6-Year-Old Child

The police in Mityana are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 6-year-old child that occurred on December 31, 2024, at 7:00 pm in Zigoti East Cell, Mityana District.

The deceased has been identified as Nabbosa Nakiyingi Irene, a 6-year-old pupil at Sonko Joy Primary School.

According to Kawala Racheal, the PRO for Wamala Region, it is alleged that the child left her parents’ home in Zigoti East at around 5:00 pm on December 31, 2024, to deliver mangoes to her teacher at Sonko Joy Primary School but never returned.

The parents mounted a search for her, but their efforts were in vain. On January 1, 2025, they reported the case to Zigoti Police Station. Officers immediately initiated a search for the missing child.

Unfortunately, on the same day, at around 4:00 pm, her lifeless body was discovered, partially clothed, in a cassava garden in the neighbourhood.

It is suspected that the child was defiled before being murdered.

“Our task team has visited and documented the scene of the crime. Relevant statements have been recorded, and the body of the deceased has been taken to Mityana Hospital mortuary for a postmortem,” said Kawala.

One suspect, identified as Ssenjobe Lawrence, a 32-year-old man, has been arrested to assist with investigations.

Kawala urged parents and guardians to be extra vigilant about their children’s safety and to always keep track of their whereabouts, especially during the school holidays.
