Ministry of works Head office closed over COVID -19

Ministry of Works and Transport office in Kampala have been closed down following a report that nine staff tested positive for COVID -19 on Wednesday. 

Accordingly, the victims and 13 contacts, mostly drivers were handed over to the Ministry of Health, for treatment and observation, and the premises sealed off.

The Minister of Works and Transport General Edward Katumba Wamala gave the directive to have all Ministry staffs (up to 319 staff) tested for COVID -19 during the drive held early in the week.

According to Mr. Waiswa Bageya, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works, the Ministry’s Head Office, Mechanical unit and the testing laboratory in Kireka, Wakiso district have all been closed for fumigation until September 7, 2020.

He noted that other ministry staff at the regional offices and mechanical units in Jinja, Gulu, Mbarara and Mbale will also be tested and their offices fumigated next week.

The Ministry’s Public Relations Officer Susan Kataike revealed that the tests and results have eased the tension that was inhibited among staffs and also given them a resting time as the offices are fumigated by the Ministry of Health.

Today, Uganda has registered one death while 176 cases were confirmed. Currently, the country has a total of 3,288 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 33 deaths and 1,532 recoveries.
