Police in Mukono District are investigating of murder of two people; Lawrence Lwera and his nephew Francis Kigozi.
The LC1 chairman of Namubiru Village in Nama Sub County, Mukono District, Henry Kabanda says that Lwera a 70-year-old peasant of the same area, was returning home on March 10, 2021, when he was waylaid by his nephew Francis Kigozi.
Kigozi allegedly hit Lwera seriously on the head with a blunt object.
Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy PRO KMP says a good Samaritan rescued Lwera and took him to Namirembe Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries later.
It is alleged that upon the community getting information about the incident, they hunted for Kigozi whom they accused of being behind the attack.
The mob arrested Kigozi and lynched him to death 150m from his home.
Police were informed late about the incidents when lives had been lost, but investigations into the murders have commenced.
Both bodies have been taken to Kawolo Hospital for post mortem.
The police have recorded statements of eyewitnesses and visited the different scenes of crime to collect evidence.
“According to preliminary information obtained, there are allegations of that the deceased persons had land wrangles. Kigozi is said to have accused Lwera, his uncle of declining to give him a piece of land. We condemn use of violence and mob action to resolve differences” Owoyesigyire says.
He added that Police will ensure all the people involved in this violent crime will be arrested and face the law.
