Father Arrested for Alleged Poisoning of Two Sons in Kiboga
Police in Kiboga have detained a suspect in connection with the alleged murder of two children by poisoning on December 10, 2024, in Magi village, Kasega parish, Kapeke subcounty, Kiboga district, at around 6:30 PM.
The suspect, identified as Mubi Aliwo Thomas, a 41-year-old resident of Kitukiro village, Kitukiro parish, Bugaya sub county in Buyende district, is the biological father of the two deceased boys.
The victims have been identified as Bugembe Thomas, aged 6, and Kabanda Praise, aged 4.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Mubi is the biological father of the children, who had been left in his care after he separated from their mother. Mubi reportedly left Buyende district with his children and moved to Kayunga in search of work but was unsuccessful. On Sunday, December 8, 2024, he left Kayunga for Hoima City after contacting his brother.
Upon arriving in Hoima with his children, Mubi could not locate his brother, as his phone was switched off. According to SP Racheal Kawala, PRO for the Wamala Region, Mubi left Hoima City on December 10, 2024, travelling by boda boda. He stopped in Magi village, Kiboga district, where he entered a building owned by Namuli Betty with his children and rested inside without the owner’s knowledge.
While there, Mubi allegedly administered poison to his children, causing their instant death.
SP Kawala reported that police were alerted about the incident, and a task team visited the crime scene. They recovered the bodies of the two male children, which showed signs of poisoning, with smelly substances flowing from their mouths.
The bodies have been taken to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination. Investigations suggest that the suspect intended to kill the children and escape for his survival.
