Over 48 arrested in Friday night bar operations

At least 48 people were arrested by officers from Katwe police station while drinking at Happy Boys and other bars (bufunda) on Friday night, the police has confirmed.

The territorial Police of Kampala Metropolitan has intensified operations on bars going against guidelines set by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Several people were arrested last night on allegations of doing a negligent act likely to cause the spread of an infectious a disease.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy spokesperson KMP says that Police operations against these suspects were carried out by police in all divisions.

Officers at Wandegeya Police Station arrested 48 suspects from Mulago Business Centre.

“Investigations and processing of suspects are still ongoing. The suspects will be arraigned in courts of law on Tuesday next week.  We call upon the public not to engage in any activity that contravenes guidelines set by Ministry of Health on the prevention of the spread of Coronavirus” Owoyesigyire said.

He warned that these operations will continue throughout this Easter period. And that the public should also remain vigilant and report any unusual activities in their areas to the police for quick response.
