Drama as relatives fight for late Bob Kasango’s body

Drama ensued at All Saints Cathedral in Kampala on Tuesday when a fight broke out between two families over the body of lawyer Bob Kasango.

Kasango’s wife & children were engaged in a scuffle with the deceased’s parents’ family immediately after the funeral service. The latter showed up with a truck, and forcefully took the casket containing his remains from the A-Plus pallbearers.

The deceased’s relatives from Tororo District in Eastern Uganda immediately set off with the casket while the wife, children and other mourners were left in awe.

The relatives encircled the process minutes after a funeral service and demanded to know where the body was being taken. However, it had been announced in Church that the Kasango was to be buried at Gweri village in Kabarole District on Thursday where he had a home. 

Directions were also given to mourners advising them to take the Kamwenge road, which is about 2 kilometres from Fort Portal City.

Kasango’s brothers started a scuffle forcing the funeral service team to cancel the viewing session and load the casket in a waiting funeral van.

The youths surrounded the hearse with support from the late Kasango’s mother, a one Rose Kabise who insisted that her son cannot be buried at the in-law’s place in Fort Portal.

One of Kasango’s brother identified as James Kasango also argued that it would be disrespectful to bury his younger brother in Tooro but rather insisted that the body was going to be taken to their ancestral home at Wikusi village, West Budama Constituency, in Tororo district.

According to Kasango’s widow Nice Bitarabeho Kasango and her relatives, the deceased willed that he should be buried at his own home in Fort Portal.
Kasango died in Luzira Prison last Saturday due to heart complications.
