Boda Boda rider shot dead by unknown assailants in Moroto
Detectives in Moroto have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who shot and killed a Boda Boda rider. The incident occurred on March 27, 2023, at around midnight in Nakapelimen village, South Division, Moroto Municipality.
Opio Job, a 30-year-old male adult and Boda Boda rider of Etesot tribe was murdered by unknown assailants while returning home after transporting a passenger to Kakolye.
AIP Longole Mile the Ag. Mt Moroto says that the deceased was shot twice in the lower back and died instantly at the scene.
“The police visited and secured the area, and a canine dog was introduced in the morning hours to assist in the investigation. However, the dog lost track around Kanakomol villages behind the municipal abattoir. The police recovered several tangible pieces of evidence that will help in further investigations and the arrest of suspects to face the law. The body of the deceased was taken to Moroto Regional Referral Hospital for Postmortem,” said Longole.
This is the second murder by shooting that has been registered within Moroto Municipality in a span of about two and a half months since the gruesome murder of two brothers in Kakolye.
“We would like to remind the community that security vigilance is not only for security personnel, but it is a responsibility for all of us. We urge residents to avoid overnight movements and passing through dark corners at night as much as possible. Above all, reporting suspicious characters to security for appropriate action is the primary role of the community,” Longole added.
He further emphasized that these types of incidents happen once in a while, which means that security measures are making it difficult for criminals to execute their targets. Criminals tend to strike only when they get an opportunity.
He, therefore, says that there is a need to create more vigilance and assist patrol teams in areas with intelligence information that may lead to the arrest of these criminal elements who are attacking the town.
“We want to appeal to the community to remain vigilant and work together with the security forces to maintain peace and security in Moroto Municipality.”
