57-Year-Old Man Arrested in Rukiga for Defiling 4-Year-Old Child

Police in Rukiga District are holding a 57-year-old man, Alfred Rukundo, a resident of Kitaburaza Cell, Nyakabungo Ward, Muhanga Town Council, after confessing to defiling a four-year-old girl.

Elly Maate, the PRO of the Kigezi Police Region, says the incident occurred on November 27, 2024, at around 6:00 PM at the suspect’s residence. Reports indicate that the suspect and the victim’s family are neighbours.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect allegedly lured the child into the house where he was staying and committed the act in the sitting room.

A neighbour reportedly witnessed the incident and alerted the victim’s mother (name withheld). The two rushed to the scene, where they allegedly found the suspect in the act.

The victim’s mother immediately reported the matter to Bukinda Police Station on November 28, 2024. Police officers visited and documented the scene, and the child underwent a medical examination. The suspect was arrested shortly after.

According to Maate, the suspect admitted to committing the offence, claiming he was under the influence of alcohol.

Medical reports confirmed that the suspect is HIV positive. As a precaution, the victim was immediately provided with Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) to reduce the risk of HIV transmission.

Maate says police investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to face charges of aggravated defilement.
