47 year old man Killed by Elephant in Kasese

Authorities in Kasese are investigating circumstances under which a resident was attacked and killed by an elephant at his home.

The deceased has been identified as Bembale Elias a 47-year-old resident of Kanyangeya Ward, Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality, who lost his life after being attacked by a solitary elephant while sleeping in his house.

The incident occurred yesterday, 19th January 2025 at 2:00 am. According to his wife, she raised an alarm that alerted the locals.

SP Nelson Tumushime the PRO, Rwenzori East Region – Kasese says that the police at Kasese CPS were informed and promptly responded. The victim was transported to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital for medical care but was pronounced dead on arrival.

This is not the first incident of elephants attacking residents. On 10th January 2025, a herd of elephants attacked and killed a 34-year-old man, Kiiza Emmanuel, while he was guarding a rice garden in Hima Division, Busongora North Constituency.

In 2022, an elephant killed a 27-year-old man, Tadeo Tumwesigye, a resident of Karusandara Sub-County. Similarly, in 2023, another elephant attack in Hima Division claimed the life of a 33-year-old man, Mugisha Yoram, also in Busongora North Constituency.
