30-year-old man arrested for gruesome murder of his 19-year-old wife
A 30-year-old man has been locked up by the Police in Busoga East on Monday afternoon over the gruesome murder of his 19-year-old wife.
The suspect has been identified as Muzamiru Malevu, a resident of Kavule zone in Mayuge town council while the deceased is Zakia Saala a resident of the same area.
Muzamiru was arrested after the residents became suspicious when stray dogs kept on roaming around his house without any of the occupants labouring to open the door.
However, upon noticing that the couple had locked itself in and declined to open the door despite calls from neighbouring residents, a group of youths forcefully broke the door and found the suspect attempting to hang himself.
They immediately searched the rest of the house, only to find Saala’s lifeless body locked up in the bedroom with deep wounds in the private parts area and neck, which raised suspicion that she was murdered for ritual purposes.
Police were informed and inspected the scene of the crime before conveying the deceased’s body to Mayuge health centre IV mortuary for postmortem.
After the police officers had taken away the body and arrested the suspect, the angry youths demolished Malevu’s house, stressing that he was not fit to dwell amongst them.
He is currently detained at Mayuge central police station awaiting prosecution.
Malevu married Saala early last year, but the couple has been involved in endless fights.
According to Farouk Maganda a brother to Saala, Malevu is a traditional healer, but they never suspected him to be involved in illegal acts.
Bashir Siriba Mayuge’s district police commander confirmed the incident adding that investigations have commenced
